And in an attempt to find it, most of us have tried just about everything. We have exercised, visualized, meditated and prayed. And much, much more. We keep hoping we can find some system, some step-by-step method—a 1,2,3,4—that if we do the right things, we can climb toward spirituality. We also want the picture perfect life that so many self-help teachers promise: wealth, trim bodies, swell kids, and a great sex partner. We’ve even been told that we create our own reality, and that by following certain laws, we can each control the universe. We want it all, and we think that spirituality will give it to us. But we are wrong. And the promises of pop-religion and pop-psychology have misled us. The fact is that Spirit isn't subject to our systems aND IDEAS. That's why after all the courses and books and insights and many, many answers, we still don’t have it all. And none of us is “controlling the universe.” After all this time, we aren’t even all that different. We’re only different sometimes.
